Join the Outback Convoy

Sydney to Barcaldine and Longreach via Moree & St George

For those driving to the Outback Regatta from Sydney, take the road less travelled and join the Outback Convoy — a unique road trip experience transporting boats inland through New South Wales and southern Queensland. The route stops at Moree and then continues to St George where you’ll meet up with the Southern Convoy, then continue on to the Ausralian Outback Rowing Regatta.

Along the way, enjoy rowing at iconic inland waterways, connect with fellow rowers, and experience the warm hospitality of regional communities.

Convoy Itinerary

Wednesday – Sydney to Moree
Depart Mosman Rowing Club at 7am or meet the trailer in Gunnedah for lunch at 12.30pm. Then onto Moree for the night. Dinner will be organised by the Moree Bush Boat crew at a local pub (TBA). Book your own accommodation in Moree.

Thursday – Moree paddle & St George hook up
Start the day with a morning training row on the Moree Water Park to get a taste of the ski park format at 8am. Load the Moree boat onto the trailer and hit the road for St Gerorge at around 10am with lunch at the legendary Nindigully Pub. At 3pm, meet up with the Southern Convoy and Cunnamulla Crew trailers for a row on the Balonne River, launching near the Andrew Nixon Bridge. Crews will be made up of mixed or existing race line-ups depending on numbers. We'll regroup that evening for a Combined Convoy Dinner with the St Geroge Bush Boat Crew at a local pub (TBA). Book your own accommodation in St Geroge.

Friday – On the road to Barcaldine
The convoy hits the road early (7am) and heads to Tambo for lunch, home of the famous Tambo Teddies. Then on the "road again" to Bacaldine arriving at about 3.30pm. We will unload and join boats ready for the regatta tomorrow and then head for our accommodation in Barcaldine or Longreach. See the Friday night events for each location.

Monday – Return to Sydney or Brisbane
The return journey begins early Monday morning. You're welcome to travel directly or take your time exploring more of inland Queensland — and perhaps even stop for another row or two at select locations on the way home.
