Barcaldine played host to something truly special, our very first Bush Kids Program, welcoming children and families from across remote Queensland to learn the fundamentals of rowing.
With support from our program partners, the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association (ICPA), BUSHKids, Distance Education networks, and Teach Outback we kicked off two days of on-water and land-based rowing sessions for kids in Years 5 and up.
Why It Matters
For many kids, this was their very first time in a rowing boat and the start of a potential lifelong passion. The Bush Kids Program helps bridge the gap between access and opportunity, giving children from remote regions the a chance to be part of a team and experience the joy the sport of rowing.
Special Thanks
To every family that made the journey, every coach who volunteered, and every supporter who believes in sport as a way to build strong, connected communities: Thank you.
This program was only possible thanks to the support of Mort & Co, Teach Outback, and the passionate crew of local volunteers who brought the event to life.
What’s Next?
We’re planning more Bush Kids Programs across regional Queensland in 2026. If your town is interested in hosting, or if your child would love to take part, visit our Bush Kids page or get in touch via hello@outbackrowing.com.
Together, we're building the future of rowing — one bush town at a time.
